How to make money on TikTok in 2026: 14 ways, with real numbers

How to make money on TikTok, 14 ways, with every rule checked on TikTok's own pages on 5 October 2026, what each one pays, and what our study of 1,120 TikToks says about the views behind the money.
On this page
Most people trying to make money on TikTok chase views, and views pay the least. Here is how to make money on TikTok in 2026: join one of TikTok's pay programs (Creator Rewards, TikTok Shop affiliate, LIVE gifts, Video Gifts, Subscription or Series), sell your own product or service, or get paid by brands. Every one of them is free to join. Most of TikTok's own programs need 10,000 followers, recent views and an age of 18 or over. TikTok Shop affiliate and LIVE gifts open at 1,000 followers. Selling your own thing and dealing with brands directly have no follower minimum at all.
Last checked: 5 October 2026, for US accounts.
We checked every rule in this guide against TikTok's Creator Academy, Help Center, program terms and TikTok Shop Academy on 5 October 2026, for US accounts. Some rules differ by country, and TikTok changes them, so check the page linked in each section before you plan around a number.
One thing before the list. Views on their own pay very little. Most of the money on TikTok comes from selling something, either your own product or service, or a brand's.

How to monetize TikTok, step by step
This order saves time. Most people start by chasing views and only then ask how those views turn into money. Do it the other way round.
- Pick the money first. If you sell a product, aim for TikTok Shop or your own store. If you know a subject well, look at Series, Subscription or a paid service. If you like being on camera for long stretches, Creator Rewards and LIVE fit. The format you post follows from this choice.
- Set the account up to qualify. Creator Rewards only accepts Personal accounts, and TikTok says Business accounts are not eligible. If you switch from Business to Personal, you can apply 30 days later. Make the account public, and keep phone numbers and emails out of your profile, because TikTok lists contact details in the profile as a reason an account is ineligible.
- Post in the format your payout needs. Creator Rewards pays for original videos over 1 minute and excludes photo posts. TikTok Shop pays on shoppable videos, photo posts and LIVEs. Check your file against TikTok's specs with our video spec checker if you're unsure.
- Grow to the threshold with formats that travel. In our study of 1,272 short videos, hooks written on screen drew 1.79 times the views of the same account's other videos, list videos 2.12 times and recap endings 1.52 times. Ending on "let me know below" went with 39% fewer views. Our guide on how to go viral on TikTok has the full list.
- Apply inside TikTok Studio. Go to your profile, tap the menu (☰), then TikTok Studio. Creator Rewards sits there, and TikTok says you'll hear back within three days. TikTok Shop affiliate is under Monetization, then TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now.
- Set up payouts and tax details. Add a payout account in your own name and finish the tax forms. Creator Rewards won't pay until you clear a $50 minimum, and TikTok Shop asks affiliates to verify their identity before they can withdraw commission.
- Track what pays, then repeat it. The Creator Rewards dashboard shows your RPM, meaning your pay per 1,000 qualified views, for each video. Do more of what earns, not only of what gets views.
How to get paid on TikTok
Getting paid is a separate step from earning, and it trips people up. Here is how the money actually reaches you for each program, as TikTok describes it.
- Creator Rewards. Rewards are worked out in the month after you earn them, then paid on the 15th if you have at least $50, through PayPal's Hyperwallet service. That is in TikTok's US program terms, last updated 20 July 2026. TikTok says withdrawals are typically processed within 72 hours, but your bank or PayPal can take longer. If your balance stays under $50, the terms say TikTok may treat the unpaid amount as expired. At $1.20 to $3 for a typical 3,000-view video, that is 17 to 42 such videos before you see a payout.
- LIVE gifts. Turn on LIVE Gifts in Settings. Gifts arrive as Diamonds. To see them, go to Profile, the menu (☰), Balance, then LIVE rewards. TikTok's LIVE guide says you can withdraw or receive rewards automatically to a bank or PayPal account, depending on your region.
- Subscription. Subscribers pay a monthly fee you set. Your earnings show on your account each month once a payment method is set up.
- TikTok Shop. Commission is earned per item sold through your content. Affiliates may be asked to verify their identity after their first commission, and can withdraw once that's done, according to TikTok Shop's US creator policy.
- Brand deals and your own sales. These are paid by the brand or the customer, not TikTok, so you invoice or sell the usual way.
Rewards can be taxable, and TikTok says it can't give tax advice. The US terms also let TikTok withhold tax it's required to collect, and claw back rewards it later decides weren't earned. Keep records from day one.
TikTok Creator Rewards Program
The Creator Rewards Program is TikTok's pay-per-view program. It replaced the Creator Fund, which TikTok closed in the US in December 2023, according to Business Insider. Here is who can join, from TikTok's eligibility page and program terms:
- You live in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico or Brazil, with an account registered there.
- You are 18 or older.
- You have at least 10,000 followers and at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days.
- You have a Personal account in good standing. Business, organisation, government and political accounts don't qualify.
- Five video violations in 30 days make you ineligible. Five account violations make you permanently ineligible.
Each video also has to qualify. It must be original, over 1 minute long and reach at least 1,000 views on the For You feed. Duets, Stitches, ads and photo-mode posts don't count. TikTok also lists split screens, meaningless reactions and "slide videos" as low quality. A view only counts if someone watches for at least 5 seconds, from one of the 8 program countries, and repeat views from one account count once.
How Creator Rewards are calculated
TikTok splits your pay into a Standard Reward, based on qualified views, and an Additional Reward, based on quality. TikTok's rewards explainer says the Additional Reward moves with average watch time, retention, completion rate and search value. TikTok also says older viewers and content in the local language can earn more, because advertisers value those audiences more.
TikTok publishes no rate. Influencer Marketing Hub (1 October 2026), Soundstripe (16 September 2026) and Fourthwall (13 August 2026) all give $0.40 to $1.00 per 1,000 qualified views, though none publishes its underlying data. Our guide on how much TikTok pays works through what that means for real view counts.
What our data says about the 1-minute rule
The 1-minute rule worries people, because short clips feel safer. Our data says longer videos didn't cost views. In the 1,120 TikToks and 152 Reels in our short-video study, videos of 60 to 90 seconds and those over 90 seconds showed no clear difference in views from the same account's other videos. TikToks over 90 seconds drew 29% more saves and 26% more shares per view. For local service businesses, videos over 90 seconds drew 2.92 times the views, as our study of TikTok by industry found.
There is a catch for trend-chasers. In our October trends scan of 559 top TikToks, the four formats with the highest median views ran a median of 8 to 17 seconds, too short for Creator Rewards. Before-and-after and day-in-the-life posts ran a median of about 67 and 69 seconds. Those are the trend formats that fit the program.
TikTok Creator Fund
The TikTok Creator Fund no longer runs in the US. TikTok closed it there in December 2023, according to Business Insider, and pointed creators to the program that became Creator Rewards. The Fund paid for videos of any length, but creators reported roughly $0.02 to $0.04 per 1,000 views, according to Influencer Marketing Hub. Creator Rewards is commonly reported at $0.40 to $1.00, but only for videos over 1 minute.
If an old guide tells you to join the Creator Fund, it is out of date. Our TikTok pay guide compares the two programs side by side.
TikTok Shop affiliate
TikTok Shop affiliate lets you add a product link to your videos, photo posts and LIVEs and earn a commission on each sale. You don't need your own stock. These are the rules from TikTok Shop's US creator eligibility policy, dated 25 September 2026:
- At least 1,000 followers.
- 18 or older and based in the US.
- Not a government, politician or political party account, and no past loss of TikTok Shop permissions.
- Pass an identity check. You may also need to confirm your age within 2 months of registering.
To apply, go to TikTok Studio, then Monetization, then TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now.
The limits under 5,000 followers
New affiliates with fewer than 5,000 followers go into a pilot program for at least 30 days. During it you can post up to 3 shoppable videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week. You can only promote products from shops with a performance score of 95% or more, and you can't join campaigns. You graduate at 5,000 followers and 30 days. If you're still under 5,000 followers after 30 days, TikTok can lift some limits, though not the 3-videos-a-day cap. To qualify you pass a policy quiz, keep at least 176 Creator Health Rating points and either post 6 shoppable videos of 8 seconds or more, do one shoppable LIVE of 5 minutes or more, or generate 10 orders.
What TikTok Shop commission looks like
Each seller sets its own rate per product. TikTok Shop's commission guide, dated 14 September 2026, adds two details most guides miss. If a seller cuts a rate after you start promoting a product, you keep the old rate for 30 days, and raises apply at once. Shoppable carousels earn 60% of the video commission rate by default, though sellers can change it. In one agency's data, MediaLabs' May 2026 benchmarks across 150+ brands, the median affiliate commission was 20%.
Our data suggests how to sell without killing reach. In our study of 1,272 videos, ending with a hard sell such as "link in bio" made no clear difference to views. In our study of 1,018 slideshows it did hurt: a hard ask on the last slide went with 0.52 times the views of the same account's other slideshows. Keep the last slide useful and let the product link do the selling. Photo carousels were also saved 4.5 times as often as videos per 100 likes, in our study of what people save, so a product guide in slides can keep working after you post it.
Other ways to earn on TikTok
LIVE gifts
Viewers buy Coins and send them as Gifts during your LIVE, and you collect Diamonds. To go LIVE you need to be 18 and, in most places, have 1,000 followers. TikTok does not publish how much of each Gift it keeps. In a 2022 BBC test on an account in Syria, $106 of Gifts left $33 in the receiving account. TikTok told the BBC its share was significantly less than 70% but declined to give a figure. TikTok's own LIVE guide says streams of 60 to 80 minutes tend to get more views than 10 to 20 minute ones.
Subscription
Fans pay you a monthly fee for perks such as subscriber-only videos and badges. You need 10,000 followers, 100,000 video views in the last calendar month and to be 18 or over. TikTok's Subscription guide says you keep 70% after app store fees, with a chance of a bonus that takes your share to 90%. Prices run from $2.99 to $99.99 a month, with $5.99 as the default.
Series
Series lets you sell access to a collection of up to 80 videos, each up to 20 minutes long. TikTok's requirements are 10,000 followers, an account at least 30 days old, 3 public posts and 1,000 views in the last 30 days, and an age of 18 or over. It suits courses, recipes and step-by-step teaching.
Brand deals
Brands pay you to make or post a video. You can deal with them directly at any size, or join TikTok's Creator Marketplace inside TikTok One, which needs 10,000 followers, 1,000 post views and 3 posts in the last 30 days. Later's 2026 pricing guide puts typical rates at $200 to $500 a TikTok for creators with 1,000 to 10,000 followers, and $800 to $2,500 at 10,000 to 100,000. Always disclose paid posts with TikTok's content disclosure setting. Our TikTok pay guide has rates for every follower tier.
Video Gifts
Viewers can also send Gifts on your regular videos, as well as during LIVEs, and you collect Diamonds. TikTok's Video Gifts page says you need 10,000 followers, an account at least 30 days old, a public video in the last 30 days, a Personal account and an age of 18 or over. Turn it on in TikTok Studio, under Monetization, then Video Gifts. Duets, Stitches and ads can't receive Gifts.
Post contests
TikTok runs in-app contests of about 4 weeks, with cash and other prizes, for themes such as film and TV, sports and learning. A TikTok panel judges the entries. TikTok's rules say you must be 18 or over with a Personal account, and photo-mode posts and entries with TikTok Shop tags don't count. In the US you find them in TikTok Studio, under Activities.
Effect House rewards
If you build AR effects in TikTok's Effect House desktop app, an effect can earn up to $14,000 once enough people use it in public videos within 90 days. TikTok's guide says you need a Gold, Platinum or Diamond creator badge, at least 5 published effects and 3 effects each used in 1,000 qualified videos. Follower count isn't the main test.
Spark Ads authorization
If your video mentions a brand in a good light, the brand can ask to promote it as a Spark Ad. TikTok's brand tagging guide, updated 23 September 2026, says you're rewarded only if the brand actually promotes the post, and the reward depends on how it performs as an ad. You manage it through TikTok One, so the Creator Marketplace rules apply.
UGC for brands
Brands pay for user-generated content (UGC), videos they post on their own accounts or run as ads. Your follower count matters less here than your ability to make a clear, natural video. On Collabstr's marketplace, UGC campaigns grew 133% in 2025 and averaged $197, according to its 2026 report.
Affiliate links and digital products off TikTok
TikTok can send people to things you sell elsewhere: affiliate links to other stores, a course, a template pack or a paid newsletter. TikTok takes no cut, but each platform has its own rules, and your bio link is the main way in. TikTok lists personal or business contact information in your profile as a reason for Creator Rewards ineligibility, so keep phone numbers and emails out of it.
Make money off TikTok with your own business
For most businesses, the best money from TikTok isn't paid by TikTok at all. It comes from customers who find you there. Our data shows these accounts can get real reach. In our study of 1,120 TikToks, the typical local service business had a typical video of about 6,000 views. In our October trends scan, 45 of 160 top local-service posts came from accounts with under 10,000 followers, and 15 of those passed 1 million views. Those were top posts, not typical ones.
What works differs by trade, as our industry study shows. For dentists, trainers, lawyers and lenders, hooks promising a numbered list drew 3.71 times the views of the same accounts' other videos. For product brands, showing the person who usually presents drew 2.51 times, and faceless videos drew 0.42 times.
If you run a business account, Creator Rewards is closed to you, and the money is in your own sales. There the job is posting steadily, which is the part Postdom helps with. It reads your website, makes short videos and slideshows in your brand, and schedules the ones you approve. Its videos run 8 to 22 seconds and its slideshows are photo posts, so they're built for reach and sales, not Creator Rewards. By default nothing posts until you approve it.
Run TikTok for local businesses as a paid service
Plenty of local businesses know they should post and never do. If you're good at TikTok, running accounts for a café, a clinic or a gym is a real service you can charge for, with no follower minimum. You need a way to show results, a simple monthly price and a client who signs off on what goes out.
This is one job Postdom was built for. Its Scale plan covers 20 connected accounts and is aimed at teams and agencies running several brands. Videos Postdom makes go to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn, and your own uploads can go to all 9 platforms it supports. By default each post waits for approval, which suits a client who wants to see posts first.
How to make money on TikTok without followers
You can earn before you have an audience, just not from TikTok's view-based programs. TikTok Shop sellers can link their own shop to an official creator account with no follower minimum. New official accounts start with a limit of 3 shoppable videos a day until they reach 1,000 followers and 30 days. UGC for brands and running TikTok for local businesses don't need an audience either.
Small accounts can also get big views. In our trends scan, 7 of the 41 posts from accounts with under 1,000 followers passed 1 million views. Those were top search results, not typical outcomes. And a viral post from a small account doesn't pay through Creator Rewards until the account reaches 10,000 followers.

How to make money on TikTok for free
Every way in this guide is free to start. TikTok charges nothing to join Creator Rewards, TikTok Shop affiliate, LIVE, Video Gifts, Subscription, Series or the Creator Marketplace, and TikTok Shop has no setup fee for sellers, though it takes a referral fee on each sale. Your real costs are time, a phone and decent light.
The ways that cost nothing and need no audience are selling your own service, making videos for brands to post on their own accounts, and running TikTok for local businesses. If you post slideshows, they cost nothing to make in the TikTok app, as our guide on how to make a slideshow on TikTok shows. They can carry TikTok Shop links, but they don't earn Creator Rewards.
How much money can you make on TikTok?
Less from views than most people expect: a typical video in our study, about 3,000 views, would earn $1.20 to $3 from Creator Rewards. Our TikTok pay guide has the numbers for every program, from 1 million views to LIVE gifts.
TikTok's US terms also let it cap each creator's rewards monthly or yearly, and change or end the program with notice. Treat Creator Rewards as a bonus on top of a business, not the business. If you want ideas beyond TikTok, our guide on how to make money with AI covers other routes.
What to avoid
- Buying followers, views or likes. TikTok's terms exclude paid or artificial views from rewards, and its eligibility page lists artificial engagement as a reason an account is ineligible.
- Reposting other people's videos. Unoriginal content is ineligible for Creator Rewards, and your account can lose access.
- Contact details in your profile. TikTok counts personal or business contact information in the profile as a reason for Creator Rewards ineligibility. Use the link or contact options TikTok provides instead.
- Undisclosed paid posts. Turn on the content disclosure setting for every brand deal.
- Waiting for views to pay the bills. Build something to sell alongside the views.
- Ending every video with "let me know below". In our study it went with 39% fewer views. A short recap did better.
Can you get paid to scroll on TikTok?
No. TikTok's creator programs pay for what you post or sell, not for watching, and we found no company we could verify that pays $100 an hour to watch TikTok. Treat any app or ad that promises money for scrolling as a warning sign.
A note on our numbers: Postdom's studies compare each post with the same account's other posts, sampled from each account's best, worst and middle posts, so the effects shown are larger than they would be across all posts. They are correlations, not proof of cause.
FAQ
How much do beginners make on TikTok?
Usually nothing from TikTok itself at first, because most pay programs need 10,000 followers. Beginners who earn early tend to sell a product or service, do small brand deals or join TikTok Shop affiliate at 1,000 followers.
How do I set my TikTok account to get paid?
Use a public Personal account, be 18 or over, and keep contact details out of your profile. Then go to your profile, the menu, TikTok Studio, and apply to the program you qualify for. Add a payout account in your own name and finish the tax forms.
What company pays $100 an hour to watch TikTok?
None that we could verify. TikTok's creator programs pay for posting and selling, not watching. Treat any offer to pay you for scrolling as a warning sign.
Do I need 1,000 followers on TikTok to get paid?
For LIVE gifts and TikTok Shop affiliate, yes, 1,000 followers is the US minimum. Creator Rewards, Video Gifts, Subscription and Series need 10,000. Brand deals and selling your own product or service have no minimum.
Can you get paid for 500 views on TikTok?
Not from Creator Rewards. Each video needs at least 1,000 For You views to qualify, and the account needs 10,000 followers. A 500-view video can still sell a product or bring in a customer.
How many views do you need to get paid on TikTok?
To earn from Creator Rewards, each video needs at least 1,000 For You views, and the account needs 100,000 views in the last 30 days. TikTok Shop, brand deals and your own sales have no view minimum.
Can you make money on TikTok without showing your face?
Yes. Affiliate links, TikTok Shop and UGC can all work without your face. But in our industry study, faceless videos drew 0.42 times the views of the same product brands' other videos, so showing the person who usually presents tends to help.
How many followers do you need to make money on TikTok?
Zero to sell your own product or service. 1,000 for TikTok Shop affiliate and LIVE gifts in the US. 10,000 for Creator Rewards, Video Gifts, Subscription, Series and the Creator Marketplace.
Is TikTok Shop affiliate worth it?
It can be if you post about products people buy. Sellers set the commission, and one agency's 2026 data put the median at 20%. Expect limits until you reach 5,000 followers, and note that shoppable carousels earn 60% of the video rate by default.
Can you make money on TikTok with slideshows?
Yes, but not from Creator Rewards, which excludes photo-mode posts. Slideshows can carry TikTok Shop links and promote your own business. In our data, photo carousels were saved 4.5 times as often as videos per 100 likes.
