Read the unit before you shorten anything. A result with no published maximum needs no fix: the platform simply states no number.

Read the unit, not only the number
Each tab names the unit its platform counts in: characters, weighted characters, graphemes or bytes. A fit in the wrong unit is not a fit.

Check the hashtag count
The tool shows how many hashtags and mentions it found. On Instagram, keep hashtags to five or fewer.

Fitting the limit says nothing about the words themselves. Read the caption once more before you post it.
Instagram hashtag limit
Instagram allows 5 hashtags on a post or Reel. Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, announced the cap in December 2025. Instagram's Help Center still says 30, so go by what the app lets you post.
How many hashtags on Instagram
Use 5 hashtags or fewer on Instagram, because 5 is the most a post or Reel can carry since December 2025. With five slots, one broad tag for your category, two or three about what the post shows, and one tag made from your business name do more than a long list of generic tags. Paste your caption on the Instagram tab: the counter shows how many hashtags it found, so you can see at a glance whether you are inside the cap.

Does a fit mean my caption will publish?
No. A fit means the caption is inside the platform's published limit. A platform can still reject the post because of the account, its permissions, the content or its own policy.
Why do some destinations show no maximum?
Because Facebook and LinkedIn publish none. Meta's Reels publishing guide states no maximum for the description, and LinkedIn documents a length error without stating the length. The tool shows that gap rather than inventing a number.
Why is X not a 280-character pass or fail?
Because X counts weighted characters, not plain characters. Emoji and some scripts count as two and every link counts as 23, so the X tab reports the weighted count when your browser can compute it.
Does a hashtag count mean I passed a platform hashtag cap?
No. The hashtag and mention rows count the tags in your text; they do not pass or fail it. Instagram caps posts and Reels at 5 hashtags, so on the Instagram tab keep that count at 5 or fewer.
Which destinations have a tab?
Every public destination has a tab: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook Reels, X, Snapchat Stories, Threads, and Bluesky. What each tab can decide depends on what Postdom has validated for it. A tab with no published maximum still counts your text; it does not invent a ceiling.
