The rules our writer follows, and how posts with each did against their own account's median.

• Open loops: 2.8x

  Open a loop

  Promise a list, steps, a ranking or a reveal, and let the post pay it off. Never give the answer away in the hook.

• Rankings: 3.4x

  Rank or rate something

  A ranking gives people a reason to stay to the end. A money amount they care about did almost as well: 3.3x.

• Lowercase: 1.49x

  Type it in lowercase

  Like someone typing a caption. All caps: 0.66x. Names keep their capitals.

• Pitching: 0.59x

  Never pitch

  Hooks that named the business or its product did worse. Your name belongs later in the post.
