How to make money on Snapchat in 2026: Snap's real rules, pay and payout steps

How Snapchat pays creators in 2026, checked on Snap's own help pages on 5 October 2026: the invite rules, the Spotlight view-time rule added in May, what creators say they earn, and how cash-outs work.

Most advice on how to make money on Snapchat is out of date: the pay-per-Spotlight program ended in January 2025, and in 2026 the money comes from an invite-only program that needs 50,000 followers and 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days.
To get there, post Public Stories and Spotlight videos, get verified as a Snap Star, and wait for Snap's email. The program shares revenue from ads placed between Snaps in your Public Stories and within your Spotlight videos. Until you're in, the money comes from brand deals, affiliate links, merch and your own products. Snap also added a rule on 7 May 2026: members must keep 100 hours of Spotlight view time in 28 days to get maximum rewards. Everything below comes from Snap's own pages, read on 5 October 2026.
| Way to earn | Who can use it | How it pays |
|---|---|---|
| Monetization Program (Stories and Spotlight ads) | Invited creators: 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days with 3,000 from Spotlight, 18 or older, eligible country, Snap Star | A share of ad revenue, paid as Creator Rewards. Snap doesn't publish the split |
| Spotlight videos in the program | Program members. Videos must be at least 30 seconds | Counted in the same program. 100 hours of Spotlight view time in 28 days for maximum rewards |
| Creator Subscriptions | Select creators Snap invites. Still rolling out | Monthly fees fans pay through their app store, cashed out like other rewards |
| Brand deals | Anyone. Turn on the Brand Partnerships toggle and use the Paid Partnership label | Whatever you agree with the brand |
| Your own products or services | Anyone | Your own sales |
| Spotlight Rewards | Nobody. It ended on 31 January 2025 | Nothing new since then |
How to make money on Snapchat in 8 steps
- Set up a Public Profile so people who don't know you can find and follow you. Your Brand Partnerships setting lives there too. Snap's program requires you to be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live.
- Post Public Stories most days and Spotlight videos every week. Snap serves ads mainly on the time people spend watching, so longer, engaging Stories help, and a Spotlight video must run at least 30 seconds to earn.
- Grow to 50,000 followers and 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days, with at least 3,000 hours from Spotlight. Track both in Insights.
- Apply to become a Snap Star. It is required for the program. Snap looks at engagement, regular public Stories, authenticity, notability and content quality, and says no one is entitled to the badge, whatever their audience size.
- Watch your email for an invite. Snap reviews creators itself and contacts them at the address on the account. It charges nothing for an invite, and no third party can get you one.
- Set up payouts. Open My Creator Rewards on your Profile, enter your legal name and details, then activate your Snapchat Payout Portal through Hyperwallet. Snap says the activation email can take several weeks and the tax check up to 2 weeks, and you can't edit your contact information once it is submitted.
- Keep 100 hours of Spotlight view time in every 28 days. It is shown under Daily Rewards Eligibility at the top of Insights, and it decides whether you get maximum rewards.
- Cash out. Rewards sit as Pending for 14 days before they become Available, you need at least $100 to cash out, and Snap says it usually takes another 14 days or more to reach your payout account. Withdrawal fees depend on the method you choose.
Snapchat monetization requirements
Snap's program page sets two groups of requirements. You need to meet all of them to be considered, and an invite is still Snap's choice.
- Audience: at least 50,000 followers.
- View time: 15,000 hours over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours from Spotlight.
- Age: 18 or older, or the age of legal majority in your country.
- Content: original, advertiser-friendly posts that follow Snap's Community Guidelines and its Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility.
- Country: you must live in one of the eligible countries. Snap's list for Story ad payouts has 43 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and all six Gulf states.
- Snap Star: your account must be verified.
- Policies: you must follow Snap's Monetization Terms and Creator Monetization Policy.

The view-time bar is the hard part. 15,000 hours in 28 days is about 536 hours of viewing a day. That is why Snap's program is for established creators, and why it is worth building brand deals and your own products long before an invite.
How much does Snapchat pay
Snap doesn't publish a rate per view or a revenue-share percentage. Its program page says ads are served mainly on the time people spend watching your Stories and Spotlights, so view time, not raw views, drives what you earn.
The best public figures come from reporting. In Digiday's February 2026 report, a Snap spokesperson said the company paid creators half a billion dollars in 2025. Creators gave Digiday their own numbers:
- Josh Horton, with 624,000 Snapchat followers and over a million daily Story views, said he never has a day under $200 and some days make over $1,000. He said Snapchat's pay per 1,000 views moves around but is more predictable than on other apps.
- Abby Berner, with 3.2 million Snapchat followers, said she earned over half a million dollars on Snapchat in 2025.
- Cheyenne Davis, a Snap Star since 2023, said she made $35,000 in one month.
These are some of Snapchat's biggest earners, chosen by a reporter because they do well. They show what is possible at the top, not what a typical invited creator makes. Be wary of sites that quote a fixed figure per million views without a source, because Snap has never published one.
Does Snapchat pay you
Only if Snap invites you into the Monetization Program, or a brand pays you directly. Posting to Spotlight no longer earns anything on its own. Spotlight Rewards ended on 31 January 2025, and Snaps posted to Spotlight since then fall under Snap's normal terms. Invited creators can still earn from their Spotlight videos inside the unified program.
If you earned Spotlight Rewards before it ended, Snap says you can still request that money for up to 2 years from the notice that you qualified. Payouts go through the same Payout Portal, so check your Creator Rewards Hub. To compare platforms, see how much TikTok pays and how to make money on YouTube Shorts.
Other ways to make money on Snapchat
Creator Subscriptions
Fans pay a monthly fee through their app store for perks you choose, such as Snaps sent to subscribers, subscriber-only Stories and priority replies. Snap's help page says the feature is still rolling out to select creators by invite, and there is no waitlist. Shopify's June 2026 guide says access widened to all qualifying creators in April 2026, so check the app for what your account shows.
Brand deals
You don't need the Monetization Program to work with brands. On your Public Profile settings, turn on Brand Partnerships so creator-discovery partners can see your insights, and add the Paid Partnership label from the Send To screen when a post is sponsored. Snap Stars can also tag the brand on Spotlight, Snap Map and Public Story posts.
Affiliate links and merch
You can share affiliate links and promote your own merch in Stories, and Snap's creator site lists an affiliate program alongside brand partnerships. Brands can also ask for an ad code or pre-approved access so they can run your post as a paid ad, which is worth charging extra for.
Your own products
Daily Stories are a good place to show what you sell, whether that is a service, a product or a booking link. The same idea works on other apps too. Our guides on making money on TikTok and on Instagram cover the sales side there.
How Snapchat pay compares with YouTube Shorts and Facebook
| Platform | How it pays | What it takes | Published rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snapchat | A share of ad revenue from ads in Public Stories and Spotlight | Invite only: 50,000 followers and 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days | None |
| YouTube Shorts | 45% of your share of a pooled Shorts ad pot | 1,000 subscribers and 10M Shorts views in 90 days (20M for new channels from Feb 2027) | None. Creators report 3 to 7 cents per 1,000 views |
| Content Monetization pays on the performance of reels, photos, stories and text posts | Invite only | None |
Our guides on how to make money on YouTube Shorts and on Facebook cover those two in full.
What gets views on Snapchat
Snap's own advice is short: post long, engaging Stories and Spotlights, open with motion and bright colour in the very first Snap, add closed captions, and reply to Story and Spotlight replies. The creators Digiday spoke to put consistency first. Horton said his Story first hit a million views on day 31 of posting every day.
Our own research is on TikTok and Instagram Reels, not Snapchat, so treat it as a starting point. In our study of 1,272 short videos, hooks written as text on screen drew 1.79 times the account's usual views, and a real place in the opening frame drew 2.28 times. In our study of what people save, tutorials drew 41 saves per 100 likes against 4 for jokes.

Keep your Stories going with Postdom
Postdom can schedule videos you upload yourself to Snapchat Stories, as long as the account has a Public Profile. Postdom's Snapchat option is Stories, and it has no Spotlight option, so post your Spotlight videos in the app yourself. They're the part of view time the program counts separately. The videos Postdom makes from your website go to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn, not Snapchat. Every post waits for your approval by default, and the Free plan covers 1 connected account.
What to avoid
- Paying for an invite. Snap charges nothing and says no third party controls who gets in. Anyone selling access is not working for Snap.
- Buying followers or views. The program asks for original content and real engagement, and Snap reviews your account before inviting you.
- Posting other people's content. The program requires original, advertiser-friendly posts.
- Undisclosed AI content. Snap's monetization policy allows content made with AI tools if you disclose the AI use in the content or on your profile, and it won't pay for formulaic, automated content.
- Spotlight videos under 30 seconds. Snap says they aren't eligible to earn revenue.
- A wrong name on the payout form. Your name must match your legal name on tax documents or ID, and you can't edit it later.
- Forgetting about your rewards. Snap cashes you out automatically if your available balance hasn't changed for a year or hasn't been cashed out for two, as long as it's at least $100. If your account isn't in good standing by then, you lose those rewards.
- Trusting old guides. Spotlight Rewards and its thresholds ended in January 2025.
FAQ
How much does Snapchat pay for 1,000 views?
Snap doesn't publish a rate. Its program pays a share of ad revenue, and ads are served mainly on how long people watch your Stories and Spotlights, so view time matters more than view counts.
How much does Snapchat pay for 1 million views?
Snap doesn't publish one. Sites quoting $1,000 to $5,000 per million don't cite a source, and Snap's program pays on view time, not view counts. The closest real numbers are creators' own: Josh Horton told Digiday that over a million daily Story views brings him at least $200 a day.
How many followers do you need on Snapchat to get paid?
50,000 for Snap's Monetization Program, along with 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days and Snap Star verification. Brand deals have no follower minimum.
How do I get paid for content on Snapchat?
Once invited, your earnings appear as Creator Rewards in the Creator Rewards Hub on your Profile. After 14 days they become available, and you can cash out at $100 or more to your Snapchat Payout Portal, run by Hyperwallet, then withdraw to a bank account or PayPal.
How to start a paid Snapchat?
Snapchat's own paid option is Creator Subscriptions, and Snap's help page says it is invite-only while it rolls out. Selling access to a private account outside Snapchat's tools isn't part of any Snap program.
Does Snapchat pay better than TikTok?
Snap doesn't publish rates, so there's no fair comparison. Some top creators told Digiday in February 2026 that Snapchat pays them more than other apps. See our guide to how much TikTok pays for the TikTok side.
Who is the highest paid Snapchat user?
Snap doesn't publish earnings by creator. Of those who have spoken publicly, Abby Berner told Digiday she earned over half a million dollars on Snapchat in 2025.
Does Snapchat still pay for Spotlight?
Not on its own. Spotlight Rewards ended on 31 January 2025. Creators invited to the Monetization Program can earn from Spotlight videos of 30 seconds or longer.
How much does Snapchat Spotlight pay for 100k views?
There is no per-view payout. Spotlight earnings come only through the Monetization Program, which pays on ad revenue linked to watch time, and Snap doesn't publish the rate.
Is Snapchat's Monetization Program free to join?
Yes. Snap says it doesn't charge any fees or accept payment for an invitation, and it warns that anyone offering an invite for money isn't connected to Snap.
Can you make money on Snapchat under 18?
Not through the Monetization Program, which requires you to be 18 or the age of majority where you live. Snap's payout terms let 16- and 17-year-olds receive other Creator Rewards with a parent or guardian's consent.
