How to get more followers on TikTok: get people to watch, then give them a reason to follow. Post one subject as a series, use the same face or place, say in your bio who the account is for, and ask for the follow at the end. TikTok says follower count is not a direct ranking factor.

This guide is about turning viewers into followers. If your problem is that nobody is watching, start with how to get more views on TikTok, which covers reach. Here we take the next step.
One honest limit. Our studies measured views, saves and comments, not follows, so we don't have a follow rate to quote. Where a step rests on our view data, we say so. Where it rests on TikTok's own advice, we cite the page.
How to get more followers on TikTok in 8 steps
- Choose one subject and say it in your bio. People follow an account that promises something. Tell a new viewer what you post and who it is for. We didn't measure bios, so this is common sense, not data.
- Show the same face or place. In our study of 1,272 short videos, the account's usual face drew about 40% more views than its other videos, and a different person drew about 30% fewer. People follow someone they recognise.
- Run a series. Slideshow hooks marked "Part 2" or "Part 3" drew 2.6 times the usual views, from a small group of 23 posts. A series gives people a reason to follow, so they catch the next one.
- Ask for the follow at the end. Videos that ended by asking for a follow drew about double the usual views, from only 47 videos, so it was not a clear result. Videos ending "let me know below" drew about 40% fewer.
- Pick formats that travel past your followers. "Expectation vs reality" posts reached a median 79 times the poster's follower count, from just 8 posts, and "me when..." posts reached 62 times, from 13 posts.
- Post on a regular schedule. TikTok's advice is to upload high-quality content on a regular basis.
- Reply to comments and go Live. TikTok's advice is to engage with viewers through comments and TikTok LIVE.
- Check who follows you. The Followers tab in TikTok Studio shows a demographic view and other insights on your followers.
Sources: TikTok Help Center, how to grow your audience and TikTok Studio, checked 7 October 2026. Postdom analysis of 1,272 short videos (1,120 TikToks and 152 Reels) from 160 accounts and 1,018 TikTok photo slideshows from 129 accounts, October 2026. Each account's best and worst posts were sampled on purpose, which makes gaps look bigger than they are. Read the direction as firmer than the size.
How to get followers on TikTok
A view is a stranger watching. A follow is that stranger deciding to see more. TikTok's 2020 explainer says neither follower count nor past hits are direct factors in its recommendations. That helps a new account, because the first post can reach people with no audience at all.
It also means followers don't come from the algorithm alone. They come from the viewer thinking "I want the next one." In Postdom's September 2026 trends scan, 7 of the 41 top posts from accounts with under 1,000 followers passed 1 million views. Those were top search results, so they show what is possible, not what is typical.
The typical account in our sample had about 28,000 followers and a median video of about 3,000 views. Of the 160 accounts we studied, 84% had at least one video that drew 10 times their usual views. Breakouts happen to ordinary accounts, which is the opening a follow-worthy series can use.
How to gain followers on TikTok
Gaining followers takes repetition. One good video rarely does it, and a plan beats a hope. Here is a simple four-week version:
- Week 1. Write your bio, pick your subject and make 3 posts in one series, so a new viewer has something to scroll through.
- Week 2. Keep the same face or place and the same opening. Reply to every comment you can.
- Week 3. Open TikTok Studio and compare your posts. Make more of the ones that drew the most views, and drop the ones that stalled.
- Week 4. Keep the series going and ask for the follow at the end of the best ones. Check the Followers tab to see who is arriving.
Judge each post in its first week. In our data, most of a top post's views came in its first days. Of 12 top TikToks we measured twice, a two-day-old post grew 89% in two days, while every post older than 24 days grew by less than half a percent. If a post is flat after a week, make the next one better.
How to get 1000 followers on TikTok
TikTok sets no official rule for 1,000 followers, and we have no data on how fast accounts reach it. What we can say is what makes a post worth following.
- Make the first line of each post a promise the rest delivers. In our slideshow data, a slide 1 that opened a loop drew 2.84 times the usual views, and one that gave the answer away drew 0.46 times.
- Make posts worth saving. Slideshows built to be kept, with steps, prices or a checklist, drew 3.13 times the usual views. Our guide to what people save on TikTok has the detail.
- Show up on the same days, so people know when to look for you.
Skip the shortcut. TikTok's explainer says spam, such as videos seeking to artificially increase traffic, may not be recommended. Bought followers don't watch.
How to get followers on TikTok for free
Every step above costs nothing. A bio, a series, a face, a follow ask and replies to comments are choices, not purchases. TikTok also has a paid tool, Promote, for growing your audience. We haven't tested it, so we can't put a number on it.
If time is the cost, the next section is for you.
Keep your TikTok posting steady with Postdom
A series only works if it keeps coming. Postdom reads your website and makes slideshows and short-form videos in your brand. Its slideshows follow the rules in this guide, with a first slide that opens a loop and a clear list or set of steps. Each post waits for your approval, and approved posts are scheduled by default at 9am and 7pm in your time zone.
Videos it makes can go to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. Slideshows go to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. The Free plan is $0 with no card: 1 post a month on 2 accounts on any platform, with a Postdom watermark. Postdom can't promise followers, and it works from what your website says, so it suits businesses more than personal creator accounts.
What to avoid
- Buying followers or views. TikTok says artificial traffic may not be recommended.
- Ending on "let me know below". It went with about 40% fewer views in our data, and it was the most common ending in our sample.
- A product close-up as the first frame. It drew about half the usual views, against more than double for a real place.
- Changing who or what the account is about every week. People follow a promise.
- Judging a post after a month. Most of the views arrive in the first days.
Frequently asked questions
