Social media marketing for dentists, that protects patient privacy

Social media marketing for dentists works best when a practice explains its work in plain words and keeps patients out of it unless they agree in writing. Postdom turns your practice website into ready-to-post videos, slideshows and single images in your brand, and posts only what someone at the practice approves.

No card needed. Nothing posts until you approve it.

Social media marketing for dentists

People are nervous about the dentist. They look for a practice that explains what happens, what it costs and what it will feel like. Social media marketing for dentists gets the most from short, calm posts that do exactly that.

Postdom reads your practice website and builds posts from the treatments, the team and the answers you already give. It writes about the service, not about any patient.

What happens in the chair

Check-ups, fillings, whitening, implants and aligners, explained step by step in the way your site explains them.

Patients stay private

Postdom writes from your site, so it does not use patient names or photos. Anything you add yourself needs written permission first.

The practice approves

New workspaces review every post. The dentist or the practice manager can approve, edit or skip each one.

Free social media marketing for dentists

Postdom's Free plan has no card. It makes 1 post a month from your practice website and connects 2 accounts, Instagram and TikTok. Free posts keep the Postdom watermark.

Use it to see whether the voice matches the practice. Starter is $39 a month for 30 posts, about $1.30 a post, when you want a steady feed.

Social media for dentists

A dentist's feed is a waiting room that never closes. It is where a patient decides whether to book, and where an existing patient is reminded to.

Mix posts about care (brushing, check-ups, what a filling is) with posts about the practice (the team, the building, opening hours, how to book). The care posts earn trust, and the practice posts turn it into a booking.

Instagram Reels for dentists

Reels let a dentist show what an appointment is actually like: the room, the equipment, the team saying hello. Most people picture something worse, so the ordinary version is reassuring.

Postdom makes Reels in your brand from your site. Videos are real clips and photos with native text boxes, music and an optional voiceover. They post to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Slideshows post to Instagram too. A 'what to expect at your first visit' sequence suits swipes.

TikTok videos for dentists

TikTok is where many younger people search for dental information first. Short, factual videos do well: what a wisdom tooth removal involves, what a scale and polish does, what an emergency appointment is.

Postdom writes the hook and on-screen text in your tone and builds the video from real clips and photos. The platform's AI label is on by default for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube posts.

Privacy and advertising rules for dental posts

Dentistry is regulated twice over, as healthcare and as advertising. These are the points that come up most on social media. Postdom does not enforce them. You do when you approve.

Patient information is protected
In the US, if your practice is covered by HIPAA (practices that bill health plans electronically are), its Privacy Rule protects identifiable patient information. A patient's name, face or the fact they are a patient can be protected health information.
Marketing needs authorization
HIPAA (45 CFR 164.508(a)(3)) requires a patient's written authorization before their information is used for marketing. A patient photo, a before and after or a testimonial from a patient needs that authorization first.
Replying to reviews
Replying to a public review with details of the patient's care discloses protected information. In October 2019, HHS's Office for Civil Rights announced a 10,000 dollar settlement with a Dallas dental practice that had disclosed patient information in replies to online reviews.
Specialist claims
Calling a dentist a specialist is limited by state dental boards and the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct (section 5, advertising). If there is no recognised specialty, say what the dentist does.
Results
Before and after photos should be genuine, typical of the practice and unaltered. State boards differ on disclaimers and on claims such as 'painless'.
Outside the US
In the UK the General Dental Council sets standards for dental advertising, and the ASA's CAP Code applies. Check the regulator you answer to.

These notes are general information, not legal advice. Postdom does not check a post against these rules. Your approval is the check, so read each post with them in mind.

Questions

Can a dentist post patient photos on social media?

Only with the patient's written authorization. In the US, for a practice covered by HIPAA, a patient's photo and the fact that they are a patient are protected information, so use authorization forms that cover marketing.

Does Postdom use patient information?

No. Postdom writes from your practice website, which should not contain patient information. If you add a patient photo or story yourself, make sure you have written permission.

Does Postdom check dental advertising rules?

No. Postdom does not check a post against HIPAA, a dental board or the ADA code. The person who approves the post is the check.

What should a dentist post about?

What happens at each appointment, how treatments work, how to look after teeth between visits, the team and how to book.

Which platforms can a practice post to?

Postdom posts to TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook Reels, X, Snapchat Stories, Threads and Bluesky. Free connects 2 accounts on any platform.

Is social media marketing for dentists really free on Postdom?

Yes, on the Free plan: 1 post a month made from your practice website, 2 connected accounts and no card. Paid plans add more posts a month and remove the watermark.
