How to start a faceless YouTube channel in 2026, within YouTube's rules
How to start a faceless YouTube channel: ideas that suit a business or creator, how to make the videos without a camera, YouTube's rules on reused, mass-produced and AI content as of 9 October 2026, and how to post Shorts every week.
On this page
A faceless YouTube channel is a channel where you never appear on camera. The videos are carried by a voiceover, text on screen, stock or AI footage, screen recordings or animation. It works best when each video teaches, shows or sells something specific, because YouTube does not monetise mass-produced or reused videos.
Last checked: 9 October 2026. We checked YouTube's channel monetisation policies, its AI disclosure rules and its Partner Program requirements on YouTube Help on 9 October 2026. Shorts limits come from our YouTube Shorts length and requirements page, where YouTube's limits were verified on 29 August 2026.
Faceless channel
A faceless channel hides the creator, not the content. The viewer still needs something worth watching. These are the common formats:
- Voiceover over footage. A script read by you or an AI voice, over stock clips, AI-made shots or your own b-roll.
- Text on screen. Short lines of text over a clip, with music. This works with the sound off.
- Screen recordings. Tutorials for software, spreadsheets, websites or games.
- Hands and objects. Cooking, crafts, unboxing and repairs, filmed from above.
- Animation and slides. Explainers built from diagrams, maps or charts.
- An AI persona. The same AI-made person in every video, so viewers see a face that is not yours.
A faceless channel is not the same as a channel with no people in it. In Postdom's study of 1,120 TikTok videos from 140 accounts, posted up to September 2026, the product brands' results were these: "Videos with no person in them drew 0.42 times the views of the same brands' other videos. Videos starring the account's usual face drew 2.5 times." The study sampled each account's best, worst and middle posts, so treat it as a link, not proof, and it covers TikTok, not YouTube. Still, it suggests showing a person, even one who is not you, is worth trying.
Faceless YouTube channel ideas
The best ideas come from something you know well and can make 50 videos about. For a business, that is what you sell. For a creator, it is a topic you can research without running dry.
| Niche | Faceless format that fits | Example video |
|---|---|---|
| Local services (plumber, cleaner, salon) | Text on screen over job clips | "3 signs your boiler needs a service before winter" |
| E-commerce | Hands-only product demos | "How to tell real linen from cotton in 10 seconds" |
| Restaurants and cafes | Food close-ups with text | "What goes into our Sunday roast" |
| Software and apps | Screen recordings with voiceover | "Set up invoice reminders in 3 clicks" |
| Real estate and travel | Place footage with text | "What $400,000 buys in this neighbourhood" |
| Personal finance | Charts and voiceover | "How a 1% fee adds up over 20 years" |
| History and explainers | Maps, archive images and voiceover | "Why this border looks the way it does" |
| Fitness and recipes | Hands, food or form close-ups | "A 5-ingredient lunch for the week" |
A few rules for picking one:
- Pick a niche with real questions. Your customers' questions, or the search box suggestions on YouTube, are a good list of topics.
- Pick a format you can repeat. A format you can make weekly beats one great video you cannot repeat.
- Add something of your own. Your prices, your process, your opinion or your data. This is also what keeps the channel inside YouTube's rules.
How to start a faceless YouTube channel
- Set up the channel. Use a brand account so a team can help later. Write a channel description that says who it is for.
- Write a script. Open with the payoff in the first line. Keep one idea per video. AI can help you outline and write; YouTube says scripts written with AI do not need an AI disclosure.
- Choose your footage. Use your own clips, licensed stock, screen recordings or AI-made shots. Do not use clips downloaded from other channels or TV without changing them substantially, since YouTube treats that as reused content.
- Choose a voice, or none. Record your own voice, use an AI voice, or go text-only with music. Text on screen lets the video work with the sound off.
- Add text on screen. Put the hook as text in the first second. Add captions for any speech.
- Edit and export. For Shorts, keep it square or vertical and up to 3 minutes. For long videos, use 16:9.
- Disclose AI where required. During upload, YouTube puts the "AI use" option in the Attributes section. Select Yes when your video needs it.
- Post on a schedule. See the cadence section below.
YouTube's rules for a faceless YouTube channel
Faceless is allowed. What YouTube restricts is content that is copied, templated or mass-produced. These are the rules as YouTube Help stated them on 9 October 2026.
| Rule | What YouTube says | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Inauthentic content | Renamed from "repetitious content" on 15 July 2025. Not monetisable: "Image slideshows, templated storylines, or scrolling text with minimal or no narrative" and "AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates" | YouTube Help, channel monetisation policies, read 9 Oct 2026 |
| Reused content | Not monetisable: "Content downloaded or copied from another online source without any substantive modifications." Allowed: clips used for a critical review, and reaction videos where you comment | YouTube Help, channel monetisation policies, read 9 Oct 2026 |
| AI disclosure | Disclose AI that meaningfully alters or generates photorealistic content. No disclosure needed for AI-written scripts, captions or beauty filters | YouTube Help, disclosing use of GenAI content, read 9 Oct 2026 |
| Partner Program | 1,000 subscribers, plus either 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Shorts feed views do not count toward watch hours | YouTube Help, Partner Program overview, read 9 Oct 2026 |
YouTube also says Partner Program updates start on 1 February 2027, and channels must accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio by 31 January 2027 to keep full monetisation. We make no earnings claims here. If you run a business, the channel's job is to bring in customers, and ads are a bonus. Our guide to faceless video AI covers when faceless videos work and when they do not.
Faceless YouTube Shorts
Shorts are the easiest way to start, because a Short is short and the format suits text on screen.
- Length and shape. A Short can be up to 3 minutes, square or vertical, for uploads from 15 October 2024 on standard channels. 3:01 is too long (Postdom Shorts length page, YouTube limits verified 29 Aug 2026).
- Hook first. The first line on screen should say what the viewer gets.
- One point per Short. Cut long ideas into a series.
- Title from the first line. A clear, plain title helps people find it in search.
- Disclose realistic AI shots. If the video shows a realistic AI-made person or place, select Yes under "AI use" when you upload.
Shorts feed views count toward the 10 million Shorts views route into the Partner Program, but not toward the 4,000 watch hours (YouTube Help, read 9 Oct 2026).
How often to post on a faceless YouTube channel
YouTube publishes no ideal posting frequency. Pick a rhythm you can keep for at least 90 days, because the Shorts route into the Partner Program counts views over 90 days. For most small teams that means a few Shorts a week, with a long video when you have a topic that needs it.
Batch the work. Write ten scripts in one sitting, make the videos in another and schedule them. Check YouTube Analytics every two weeks, then make more of what holds viewers.
How Postdom makes faceless YouTube Shorts
Postdom reads your website and makes short vertical videos about what you sell, in your brand. Each has a spoken-style hook written as text, short lines on screen, matching clips and music, so it works with the sound off. By default a video opens on a person, made with AI or filmed for stock, who never speaks. Some styles open on a place instead, and a voiceover style reads a short script with one AI voice. See faceless video AI for the styles.
You approve, edit or skip each video, and by default nothing posts until you approve it. Postdom then uploads approved Shorts to your connected YouTube channel at the scheduled time. The first line of the caption becomes the title. Approved posts go out at 9am and 7pm in your time zone by default. Most of Postdom's Shorts are under half a minute, well inside YouTube's 3-minute limit. The AI label is on by default for YouTube. The same videos can also post to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
On paid plans, an AI persona can put the same person on screen in every video, with no camera. Persona videos cost credits, and paid plans include monthly credits (Postdom pricing page, read 9 Oct 2026).
What Postdom does not do: it does not make long YouTube videos, does not clip your old videos, does not decide payouts and does not run ads. YouTube's originality rules apply to everything you post, so approve only videos that say something useful about your business. See the YouTube Shorts maker for more.
What to avoid
- Copying other channels. Re-uploads and lightly edited clips count as reused content.
- One template, hundreds of videos. YouTube names generic or unoriginal AI templates in its inauthentic content policy.
- Hiding realistic AI. Disclose it at upload when it applies.
- Buying views or subscribers. It wastes money and does not build an audience.
- Promising income. Build the channel around customers or a topic you care about, not a payout figure.
