Faceless video AI: how to make faceless videos, and when they work

Faceless video AI explained: what faceless videos are, how to make them with AI, and when they work. Our study of 1,120 TikToks found product brands got 0.42 times their usual views with nobody on screen.

Faceless video AI makes videos where no one appears on camera. It uses stock clips, text on screen, voiceover or photos, so you never film yourself. It works for some accounts and fails for others. In our study, product brands got 0.42 times their usual views when nobody appeared on screen.

Last checked: 7 October 2026, for US TikTok.

Our numbers come from Postdom's study of 1,120 TikTok videos from 140 accounts, posted up to September 2026. Each video is compared with the same account's other videos, so a small shop is measured against itself. The study sampled each account's best, worst and middle posts, which inflates the size of every effect. Treat direction as more reliable than size, and treat every result as a link, not proof of cause. Full method: TikTok by industry.

One limit up front. The study measured real people on screen. It did not measure AI personas, so we cannot say a persona earns the same views as a real face.

What is faceless video AI?

Faceless video AI is software that builds a video without anyone on camera. You give it a topic, a script or a website. It picks or makes the clips, adds text and voiceover, and returns a finished video.

Faceless videos come in a few looks.

  • Text on real clips. Native text boxes over real footage of a place or a product. This is how many short videos on TikTok and Instagram are made.
  • Slideshows. Photos with text on each one. Viewers swipe through them, or they play with music.
  • Voiceover over b-roll. A voice reads the script while relevant clips play.
  • AI persona. An AI-made person speaks on screen. This is not faceless. It solves the same problem, because you do not film yourself.

Faceless videos

People make faceless videos for three reasons: privacy, time and not wanting to be on camera. The format suits content where a product, a place or a list is the star.

It also has a cost on some accounts. The next sections show where the data says it helps and where it hurts.

Faceless video generator

A faceless video generator turns one input into a finished video. The input can be a topic, a script, a link or a whole website. Check three things before you pick one.

  1. What it starts from. A tool that needs a script for every video leaves the writing to you. A tool that reads your website can write from what you already say about your business.
  2. Whether the clips are real. Real clips and photos with native text boxes match what people post natively. Generic stock footage can look generic.
  3. Whether it posts. Many generators hand you a file, and you upload it to each platform yourself. Others schedule and post what you approve.

How to make faceless videos with AI

These steps work with any generator. They come from what our TikTok data links to more views.

  1. Pick one idea per video. A list, a tip or a look at a place. One idea is easier to follow with no face to hold attention.
  2. Write the hook as text on screen. Across all 1,120 videos, a hook written on screen drew 1.89 times the views of videos without one. A spoken-only opening drew 0.59 times.
  3. Open on a real place. For product brands, opening on a real place such as a shop floor or a street went with 2.6 times the views. Clips built on a single moment did worst, at 0.34 times.
  4. Add voiceover or music. Sound gives a faceless video a human feel. Keep it short and clear.
  5. End on a recap. In our study of 1,272 short videos, ending on a vague invite such as "let me know below" went with 39% fewer views. Ending on the last list item or a quick recap tended to do better.
  6. Label AI-generated content. Platforms ask creators to label AI-generated content. Check each platform's own help pages for the current rule before you post.

Do faceless videos work?

It depends on the account. For small product brands, faceless videos did badly in our data.

Product brands in the study were candle makers, clothing labels, jewellers, bakeries and coffee brands: 280 videos from 35 accounts. Videos with no person in them drew 0.42 times the views of the same brands' other videos. Videos starring the account's usual face drew 2.5 times.

Faces are not the only route, though. One bakery's biggest hit opened on the shop itself with no one on screen, while the owner said, "We were open from 10 to 7 p.m. today and not a single customer came in." It drew 1.8 million views, 212 times that account's typical video. A strong hook and a real place can carry a faceless video. That bakery is one account, so it is an example only.

When faceless videos work and when they don't

Faceless videos tend to work when

  • The hook is written on screen and promises something specific, such as a list.
  • The video opens on a real place or a real product in use.
  • The story is the place, the product or the list, so no one needs to be the star.

Faceless videos tend to struggle when

  • Followers know and follow a person. For small product brands, the usual face drew 2.5 times the views.
  • The whole video is one moment with no change. For product brands, these drew 0.34 times the usual views.
  • The ending is a vague invite to visit or comment.

How to get a face on screen without filming yourself

If your account needs a person, you have two options: film yourself, or use an AI persona. A persona is a consistent AI face for your videos, so followers recognise it.

A persona does not guarantee more views. Our study looked at real faces. It is a way to get the person-on-screen format without a camera, and every persona video carries the platform's AI label.

Postdom: faceless videos and AI personas

Postdom makes both kinds. Paste your website and Postdom reads your brand: logo, colours, fonts, tone, what you do and who it is for. Your For You feed then fills with finished posts in formats that already work on TikTok and Instagram.

  • Faceless videos. Real clips and photos with native text boxes, music and optional voiceover. Postdom also makes slideshows and single images.
  • Videos with an AI persona. Make a persona from a few clear photos of yourself, or describe an AI persona. It can never be a real or famous person. Postdom builds the persona's looks and a clip library, then makes videos with it.

You approve, edit or skip each post, and nothing posts until you approve it. Postdom schedules what you approve to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky and Snapchat. Videos go to five of those: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. It learns from every approve, edit and skip.

Personas are on paid plans. Free users can browse the page, and making a persona opens the upgrade screen.

Free faceless video AI

Postdom's Free plan is $0 with no card. It makes 1 post a month from your website and connects 2 accounts on any platform. Free posts keep a small Postdom watermark, which paid plans can turn off.

A Free post can be a faceless video, a slideshow or a single image. Personas need a paid plan.

Free faceless video generator

Free is the way to see whether a faceless format suits your brand. You get one finished post a month, made from your website, and you decide whether it goes out. When you want more posts, paid plans add them and unlock personas.

Do I have to label AI videos?

Platforms ask creators to label AI-generated content, so check each platform's help pages. Postdom turns the AI label on by default for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube posts.
