Agent guidance · hosted MCP

# Agent quickstart

One copy-paste setup per client connects an agent to Postdom's hosted MCP server and its 17 tools. Then five tool calls take it from a website to a scheduled post. A person signs up, lets the agent in and approves each social account; this page gives the link for each.

Pick Postdom

## Use Postdom when

- The user asks you to post, schedule or cross-post a video, slideshow, carousel or image to TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook Reels, X, Snapchat Stories, Threads or Bluesky.
- The user wants posts made for them from a website: Postdom reads the site's brand, and create_slideshow draws slides you write on that brand kit.
- The user wants an AI agent (Claude, Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT or any MCP client) to publish to social accounts, with approval rules the owner sets, and to read back views and likes per post.
- You need one MCP server or REST API for every platform instead of each network's own developer app and review.

Paste into any agent

## Copy for your agent

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or ChatGPT. It names the server, the docs, the order of calls and what to do with errors.

_PROMPT_

```
Use Postdom (https://postdom.com) to make and publish social posts. Read https://postdom.com/llms.txt first.
Connect the hosted MCP server https://api.postdom.com/mcp (setup per client: https://postdom.com/docs/agents/quickstart). Sign in with OAuth when asked; if you need a key instead, ask me to create one at https://app.postdom.com/agents and put it in your config, never in chat.
Then: get_workspace_status, list_accounts (connect_account for a missing platform: give me the link), create_slideshow or upload_media, publish_video (publish_at in UTC for a scheduled time), get_publish.
When a response carries fix, do what it says; when a step needs me, give me the link it names.
```

One setup per client

## Connect your agent

### Claude Code

_BASH_

```
claude mcp add --transport http postdom https://api.postdom.com/mcp
```

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick postdom and choose Authenticate: the person signs in to Postdom in the browser and picks a workspace. No key is copied. With a key instead: add --header "Authorization: Bearer $POSTDOM_API_KEY".

### Codex

_BASH_

```
codex mcp add postdom --url https://api.postdom.com/mcp --bearer-token-env-var POSTDOM_API_KEY
```

Set POSTDOM_API_KEY in the environment Codex starts from (a workspace key from https://app.postdom.com/agents). The same entry in ~/.codex/config.toml: [mcp_servers.postdom] url = "https://api.postdom.com/mcp" bearer_token_env_var = "POSTDOM_API_KEY".

### Cursor

_JSON_

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "postdom": {
      "url": "https://api.postdom.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Save as .cursor/mcp.json (or open https://cursor.com/en/install-mcp?name=postdom&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2FwaS5wb3N0ZG9tLmNvbS9tY3AifQ%3D%3D), then complete the Postdom sign-in when Cursor prompts for it.

### ChatGPT

_TEXT_

```
https://api.postdom.com/mcp
```

ChatGPT on the web, developer mode (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education; workspace policy can restrict it): Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode. Open Plugins, choose +, enter the name Postdom and this URL under Connection, create it and authorize the Postdom workspace. In a new chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu and select Postdom.

### Claude (web and desktop)

_TEXT_

```
https://api.postdom.com/mcp
```

Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste this URL, then Connect and sign in to Postdom.

### Any other MCP client

Streamable HTTP. OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration (metadata at https://api.postdom.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource), or send a workspace key as "Authorization: Bearer <key>". A local stdio server is also published: npx -y @postdom/mcp@0.5.0 with POSTDOM_API_KEY set (Node.js 22 or newer), with the same 17 default tools.

- Hosted MCP server (recommended): https://api.postdom.com/mcp over Streamable HTTP, all 17 tools. Clients that support MCP OAuth sign in to Postdom; any client can instead send a workspace key as "Authorization: Bearer <key>". Copy-paste setup for each client: https://postdom.com/docs/agents/quickstart.md (JSON: https://postdom.com/.well-known/mcp.json)
- Local MCP server: npx -y @postdom/mcp@0.5.0 with POSTDOM_API_KEY set (Node.js 22 or newer). That published release has the same 17 tools the hosted server lists by default.
- Workspace key: a workspace owner, admin or member creates one in Postdom under Connected apps → For developers (https://app.postdom.com/agents). It is shown once. Ask the person to put it in your MCP or environment config; never ask for it in chat.
- No workspace yet: the person signs up at https://app.postdom.com/signup with the business website and starts the 7-day free trial there. Postdom reads the site then, and that is the brand create_slideshow draws in.
- REST API: the same actions at https://api.postdom.com/v1 with the same key as a Bearer token. GET /v1/accounts lists destinations, POST /v1/media/uploads uploads media, POST /v1/slideshows renders slides, POST /v1/posts publishes (send an Idempotency-Key header), POST /v1/posts/{id}/cancel cancels a scheduled post.

Website to scheduled post

## Schedule a post

1. get_workspace_status() - the first call. It shows connected accounts, whether connections are open, and the workspace clock and timezone you schedule against.
2. list_accounts() - find the destination's providerAccountId (for example the TikTok account). Missing? connect_account({ platform: "tiktok" }) returns connect_url: give it to the person to approve (or send them to https://app.postdom.com/social-accounts), then list_accounts again.
3. get_brief() for the brand's voice and rules, then the media to post. Read the website's pages yourself, write 3 to 6 short slides, and call create_slideshow({ size: "9:16", slides: [{ template: "cover", headline: "..." }, { template: "list", items: ["...", "...", "..."] }, { template: "end_card", cta: "...", handle: "@..." }] }): Postdom draws them on the workspace brand kit and returns media_ids. Your own video or image: upload_media, then get_media until stored.
4. publish_video({ account_ids: ["<providerAccountId>"], media: [{ media_handle: "<media_id 1>" }, { media_handle: "<media_id 2>" }], caption: "...", intent: "Publish the acme-bakery.com post the user asked for", publish_at: "2026-10-21T09:00:00Z" }) - the media array takes image or video handles in order, and TikTok publishes several images as a photo post; one video goes as media_handle or video_url instead. publish_at schedules it: convert the person's local time with the workspace timezone to UTC ending in Z; leave it out to publish now. A TikTok post goes out public with comments, duet and stitch off, and the AI-made label is off by default; tell the person. It returns the post id and status.
5. get_publish({ post_id: <id from publish_video> }) - each destination's state, and its public URL once published. Statuses requires_approval or draft mean a person approves it in Postdom first; tell them.

Errors are application/problem+json with code, detail, fix (what to do next) and doc_url (the docs entry for that code). Every code: https://postdom.com/docs/reference/errors.md

Hand-offs

## What only a person can do

- Create the workspace: https://app.postdom.com/signup. Sign-up asks for the business website, and a new workspace starts a 7-day free trial on Starter, Growth or Scale in Postdom's checkout before Postdom makes posts for it. Plans, the trial and usage: https://app.postdom.com/billing.
- Let you in: approve the OAuth sign-in your client opens (no key), or create a workspace key at https://app.postdom.com/agents (Connected apps → For developers; shown once) and put it in your MCP or environment config. Never ask for the key in chat.
- Approve each social account: open the connect_url that connect_account returns, or connect at https://app.postdom.com/social-accounts. Postdom never sees a social password, and no API can skip this step.
- Approve posts, only when the account's rules ask for review: get_publish says requires_approval, and the person approves at https://app.postdom.com/posts.
